Brigette Reviews Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick

Describe it in 25 words or less. A frighteningly honest look into the mind of a suicidal teenager.

Who was your favorite character and why? Leonard Peacock because I could relate to him quite a bit and I have known and loved some Leonards as well.

Who was your least favorite character and why? Linda because neglect is unforgivable.

Did it grab you immediately or did it take a while? It grabbed me immediately mostly because I was so angry.

What did you think of the ending? Really depressing.

What was the moral of the story? If you focus on being true to yourself, the people who will love you for who you are will find you.

Favorite quote: “Do anything! Something! Because you start a revolution one decision at a time, with each breath you take.” – Leonard Peacock

What would you change? The ending.

Have you read other books by the same author? I read Silver Linings Playbook last year and really fell in love with Matthew Quick’s ability to treat broken people with hope and dignity.

Would you like to see it adapted into a film? Any casting suggestions? I am very disappointed to hear that The Weinstein Company has bought the rights to the book. They did not do Silver Linings Playbook justice, so I have little faith that this will be any different. Plus, I think it would be too painful to watch and too hard to properly portray what was going on in Leonard’s head. I’d like to see Sam Riley as Leonard.

Who would you recommend it to? Everyone. I think it should be required reading for life.
