Describe it in 25 words or less.
Pete: The start of the Star Wars saga; an introduction to Jedi Knights.
Brigette: How it all started…in a galaxy far, far away.
Morgan: The first film in the Star Wars series which is all about young Anakin who dreams of being a Jedi.
Gable: Obi-Wan and his Master unwillingly go to Tatooine where they find a boy who can bring balance to the Force.
Any particular reason for choosing this film?
We watched episodes 4, 5 and 6 with the girls as our 2013 New Year’s Eve movie marathon. Check out our reviews of Star Wars: Episode 2 – The Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith.
Pete: Adventure/Science Fiction
Brigette: Science Fiction
Gable: Science Fiction/Action.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Pete: Anakin Skywalker because he still has his innocence and sense of adventure.
Brigette: R2D2 because he’s a true hero.
Morgan: Qui-Gon Jinn because he was so wise.
Gable: R2D2 because he is so cute and he sort of makes the film funny. Without R2D2, I bet I wouldn’t of giggled or smiled or laughed at ANYTHING in The Phantom Menace.
Who was your least favorite character and why?
Pete: Watto because he is a slave trader and all he cares about is money.
Brigette: Sebulba because dishonesty is not a trait I admire.
Morgan: Darth Mal. He creeped me out because he barely talked. That alone is scary to me.
Gable: Darth Maul because he was so evil.
How was the casting?
Pete: The only character I had trouble with was Ewan McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi, but I’m not sure who would have been better in that role.
Did it grab you immediately or did it take a while? Was it worth the wait?
Pete: Got straight into it, but then it became tedious in the middle.
Brigette: The opening scene always gets my attention.
Morgan: It got me immediately. So far, all the Star Wars movies are like this.
Gable: It took about 20 minutes for me to really get involved in the story but it was definitely worth it.
Pete, Morgan & Gable: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering.” – Yoda
Brigette: “Your focus determines your reality.” – Qui-Gon Jinn
What would you change?
Brigette: I would have made the pod racing scene shorter.
Gable: If I tell you what I want to change about it, it would give the whole thing away.
How was the soundtrack?
Brigette: One day I would like to see a Star Wars film with a live orchestra.
Is it part of a series and have you seen the rest of the series? Pete and Brigette have seen all episodes released to date. Morgan and Gable have seen all but Episodes 2 and 3 which they plan to watch this year.
How was the ending?
Pete: Predictable, but still entertaining.
Morgan: A little too sudden for my liking.
Gable: Very touching and sad. But the very very VERY end was happy but very abrupt.
What was the moral of the story?
Pete: Don’t give in to fear.
Morgan: To be fearless.
Who would you recommend it to?
Pete: Star Wars or Muppet fans.
Brigette: People who can be open minded about their Star Wars and those who would like to see the origins of the Star Wars saga.
Morgan: Star Wars fans or fans of action/sci-fi movies.
Gable: People who love the feeling of adrenalin.
Beer pairing: (Pete’s specialty)
Color palette: (Morgan’s specialty)
Favorite Architectural Detail: (Pete’s other specialty)
Jar Jar Bink’s sub aquatic home.
