Pete Reviews The Woman In Black

The Woman In Black by Susan Hill

Write 6 words you would put on this book if it were in the “Blind Date With A Book” shelf. Suspense. Fog. Ghost. Swamp. Causeway. Death.

Genre: Ghost-story / Suspense.

What did you think of the cover art? I’d rather have a cover that was not motion picture related.

Who was your favorite character and why? Spider the dog, because he was intelligent and also a source of comfort for Arthur Kipps.

Who was your least favorite character and why? Jennet Humfrye. If I told you why it might give away the ending.

Did it grab you immediately or did it take a while? Was it worth the wait? It built-up gradually, but was well worth it. The climax did not come until the last few pages.

Was it plot or character driven? A perfect balance of both.

What did you think of the ending? Ending was brilliant and that is all I will say about it. If you’re one of those people who read the last few pages (or even paragraph) of a book to decide if its worth reading; DO NOT do that for this book!

Favorite quote: : “You, Arthur, will be away from here tomorrow or the next day. You, if you are lucky, will neither hear nor see nor know of anything to do with that damned place again. The rest of us have to stay. We’ve to live with it.” – Mr Daily

How does the book compare to the film? Not sure, but from what I’ve seen of the trailer I’m not sure if I even want to watch the film.

Would you like to see it adapted into a film? Any ideas on casting? I’d like to have seen a young Ralph Fiennes  type instead of Harry Potter.

Who would you recommend it to? Anyone who likes a good ghost story.
