oblivion

Describe it in 25 words or less.

Pete: An effective team must repair any damaged drones they can find on a dying planet before it is too late.

Brigette: A man must choose between his head and his heart in order to save the world and the woman he loves.

Genre:

Pete: Sci-fi/Romance

Brigette: Sci-fi

Who was your favorite character and why?

Pete: Jack because he always appeared to have a purpose and a plan.

Brigette: Jack because he questioned things.

Who was your least favorite character and why?

Pete: Sally because she was deceitful.

Brigette: Victoria because she was manipulative.

Did it grab you immediately or did it take a while?

Pete: It grabbed me immediately. It was not as action packed as I expected but it made up for that with thought provocation.

Brigette: It was the most likeable sci-fi film I’ve ever seen from start to finish.

Favorite quote:

Pete: “I don’t know what happened, but you’re not who you think you are.” – Jack

Brigette: “Buck up, Bob. Don’t go all shaky on me.” – Jack

How was the soundtrack?

Brigette: M83 did a fabulous job on the score and you can listen to it on YouTube here with the standout being Oblivion featuring Susanne Sundfør.
Other songs you can see on YouTube that were in the film were:
Ramble On by Led Zeppelin
A Whiter Shade of Pale by Procol Harum

Have you watched other films by the same director/actor?

Pete: I’m a Tom Cruise fan, but please don’t tell anyone.

Brigette: I’m not a big Tom Cruise fan, but I seem to watch a lot of films he’s in; they are just so entertaining.

How was the ending?

Pete: Excellent and a bit of head-spinner.

Brigette: Really well done.

What was the moral of the story?

Pete: Trust your own instincts.

Brigette: Listen to your instincts. If something doesn’t add up, investigate further.

Who would you recommend it to?

Pete: People who like both sci-fi and romance.

Brigette: To people who like there sci-fi with a little more heart.

How does the film compare to the book?

Pete: Apparently the film is based on a graphic novel written by Joseph Kosinski & Arvin Nelson, Illustrated by Andrée Wallin. I’ve only seen glimpses of the book. I would like to find a copy before I comment.
