Any particular reason for choosing this film?
Brigette: I see all of John Cusack’s films.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Pete: Rubia because he was the most entertaining.
Brigette: Rat Billings because he had the best advice.
Who was your least favorite character and why?
Pete: Amy because for about 90% of the film she was annoying.
Brigette: Amy because she was very self-absorbed.
How was the casting?
Brigette: An odd mix with John Cusack and Cloris Leachman being the standouts.
Did it grab you immediately or did it take a while?
Pete: It did not grab me immediately, but it did provide a reasonable level of entertainment throughout despite it’s predictability.
Brigette: I was excited about it from seeing the trailer, but it was one of those films where that’s as good as it gets.
Amy’s father: “ I don’t like you working downtown after dark.”
Amy: “That’s racist.”
Rat Billings: “How do you feel about failure as a concept? Because you know all the best people are failures these days.”
Amy: “I’ve failed many times.”
Rat Billings: “That’s good; continue to fail. Beckett said if you want to make art, you have to fail. So the artist’s job is to fail better.”
Amy: “Fail better…we should make t-shirts.”
How was the soundtrack?
Brigette: Suited the movie to a T. We’ve put most of the songs from the film on Grooveshark.
How was the ending?
Pete: Predictable, not very original, and a bit of a let-down.
Brigette: Boring and cliché.
What was the moral of the story?
Pete: You can gain wisdom from hard work and failure.
Brigette: Your skills will improve as you gain more life experiences.
Who would you recommend it to?
Pete: Aspiring writers or ambitious young people who think that careers are easily achieved.
Brigette: Young people who did everything right at school and can’t figure out why they are having such a hard time in the “real world”.
