Pete: I thought this was going to be at least three times scarier than it actually was. However, it did make me think about social issues more than I thought it would. The premise was slightly ridiculous, but the film was put together well enough that it was not too difficult to swallow. The actors’ performances were convincing enough and that only helped the cause too. I’m a fan of most Ethan Hawke films; this is another one he can be proud of. I am looking forward to the sequel (and possible prequel). I’d pair Ironfire Brewing Company’s Six Killer Stout with this film.
Brigette: Home invasion films really freak me out, so I was really not looking forward to this one. Luckily for me, it turned out to be more of a dystopian future film than a horror film. It wasn’t the best executed film, but it did pose some interesting questions. I’m not sure I want to see The Purge: Anarchy, but the proposed prequel is definitely on my list as it promises to tell how the Purge came to be.
